Most artists are familiar with the high prices and commission rates charged by galleries for displaying work (in often inappropriate settings) and the high cost and hassle involved with other forms of exhibition.

This new website offers artists, photographers and others the opportunity to display and sell their work worldwide on the internet to a potentially unlimited number of international buyers.

As an exhibitor on artistprints-online.co.uk, your work will be displayed alongside direct links to your website, email and telephone number with Buy Buttons sending payments direct to your account.

Sales of prints will easily cover the small cost of joining and make you a substantial profit too. You retain all copyrights in your work.

If you would like to know more about it call me on 01303 840665 or click here to send me an email.

If you're taking your own photographs for print and gallery use, you may find the following suggestions useful.

n

Support the camera, preferably on a tripod but any solid item will do.

n

Set the camera for highest quality, size and resolution.

n

Set the zoom about halfway, ie neither wide or tele, then move the camera until the image is within the frame. Never use digital zoom.

n

If your camera has a "sharpen" function, turn it off or select "normal".

n

Outside in natural daylight is best but avoid direct light if possible.

n

Aways keep an un modified copy of the original picture file.

n

Email your pictures as simple attachments to an email, not from within another application which may change the size/quality for you!

n

When taking photographs for printing or marketing use of any kind, it is advisable to use the highest available quality and size settings to get the biggest possible file size.

These files should be stored (preferably locked or on cd, to avoid inadvertent modification) and new, specifically purposed, copies made from them for whatever use they are currently required.

Big files don't cost any more than small ones.

In simple terms, whatever the biggest file size your camera can produce, that's the size you need.

Although the internet typically uses fairly small files of low resolution (eg 72/96dpi) if you subsequently want to print an A2 poster by litho process for example, the file size required will probably be about that of your original, biggest file.

Downsampling is ok but upsampling is usually unsuccessful and is not recommended.
