Yvonne Hutchcraft

I was born in London but have moved around quite a lot in England and abroad, I spent a number of years in Kent before moving to Wales.

I started to paint in 1991 when I lived in Cardigan in West Wales when an artist friend offered to give me lessons in drawing and painting. I then opened a bistro and was unable to continue the lessons at his home so we decided to have the lessons on a Wednesday afternoon in the bistro or the garden on a nice day. I soon had a class of 12 budding artists attending our classes and it turned into a nice social afternoon.

When I closed the bistro in 1996 I enrolled onto a full time art access course in Coleg (Welsh for college) Ceredigion. I tried various artistic techniques including sculpture, printing, pottery, photography and art history as well as painting. It was one of the most enjoyable years that I have experienced.

I have exhibited in the Theatre in Cardigan and a local gallery and had one of my sculptures on display in Aberystwyth University reception area. I have also managed to sell some work and it's a real thrill to think someone likes your work enough to want to pay money for it.

I moved back to Kent in 2000 and I am now Membership Secretary for Folkestone Art Society where we have over 150 members. We have two main exhibitions every year which are held at The Grand Hotel on the Leas in Folkestone and where we have an excellent display of professional and leisure artists' work.
