I have been interested in Art since early childhood when I won Second Prize (a box of paints) in a painting competition. The First Prize was a bicycle. A few years later, at school, I won the Second Form Art Prize which was a book called Engines Today. Then I had to drop Art in favour of more 'academic' subjects. Art was not an option in those days and it became very much a spare time activity, prime time being occupied with school, sport, National Service, University, marriage, children and a career in industry and as a management consultant.

I nevertheless persevered with my Art and found time to attend Adult Education Classes in Maidstone (drawing), Orpington (painting), and Bromley (wood carving). However, it was not until I actually retired that I was able to find enough time for the two things I always wanted to do more of-writing novels (three so far) and painting.

I signed up for the 'Master Class' at the White Lodge Centre in Folkestone and there, over a number of years, I studied and practised a variety of techniques and genres under various excellent tutors.

I joined the Folkestone Art Society, which holds two major exhibitions each year. I also edit their Journal and have had a one-man exhibition at George's House Gallery. My preferred medium is oil and my preferred subject is landscape. I generally take photographs and make sketches on the spot, and I work from these to make the finished painting.
